Walking from Family Court at 212 Washington Street
Turn left on Washington Street when leaving Family Court. Make a right onto Market St. and walk up the hill, crossing Market St so that you are on the left side of the street (opposite of Essex County College). At the Lincoln statue, in front of the Historic Courthouse Building, continue straight, with the statue and building on your left. Continue up the hill, crossing MLK Blvd keeping the Hall of Records Building on your left. West Market St will continue to your right but stay on the sidewalk with the building on your left and you will see a small parking lot and a Essex County sign on your right coming up to the Veteran’s Courthouse. You will pass the Rosa Parks statue and the Veteran’s Courthouse on your left. The next building you will see on your left is the Leroy Smith Public Safety Building. At the Congressman Payne statue use the doors on your right to enter the Public Safety Building. Walk through the metal detectors and take the elevators to the 2nd floor. You will need to be buzzed in so when you arrive at our door, kindly ring the bell on your right and we will welcome you in.
Taking the bus from Family Court at 212 Washington Street
Turn left on Washington Street when leaving Family Court. Turn left on Market Street for one block. At the corner of Market & Halsey Street, take the 21 or 34 bus to Wickliff Street. At Wickliff Street, make sure you are on the opposite side of West Market St. of the West Market Vocational School. You will see and entrance to Veterans Memorial Park and a tall building past the park. Walk through the park towards that building which is the Leroy Smith Public Safety Building. Once you reach the building, you will see an entrance to the Veterans Courthouse on your left and an entrance to the Public Safety Building on you right and a statute of Congressman Donald Payne in the middle. Enter the building on you right. Walk through the metal detectors and take the elevators to the 2nd floor. You will need to be buzzed in so when you arrive at our door, kindly ring the bell on your right and we will welcome you in.
Use either “Howard Street and 13th Avenue, Newark, NJ 07102” or “60 Nelson Pl Newark” as the address for GPS.
Parking for a fee is available in the Veteran’s Courthouse parking lot off of Howard Street but we can provide you with a parking voucher. There is also street parking available, but be mindful of street cleaning on Mondays and Tuesdays. If you park in the lot, use the Veteran’s Courthouse entrance and pass through the metal-detectors. walk up to the main level and head left toward the Leroy F. Smith Jr. Public Safety building. You will have to exit Veterans Courthouse, cross the Congressman Donald Payne plaza, then enter the Leroy F. Smith Jr. Public Safety Building. Walk through the metal detectors and take the elevators to the 2nd floor. You will need to be buzzed in so when you arrive at our door, kindly ring the bell on your right and we will welcome you in.
